What is introspection?
IntrospectionIntrospection is something that I strongly believe everyone needs to focus on in order to reach a state of aliveness in their life. But what exactly is it?
For me, introspection is something that I always find myself turning to when I am feeling lost or chaotic in the intricacies of life. I pause and revert back to exploring my being. I look inward and reflect, observing and diving deep into my thoughts, emotions, and actions.
So, what impact does introspection have on my life? Well, it allows me to make more conscious decisions and reconnect with my inner self. When we stop to reflect on what we are thinking, feeling or experiencing, we are able to examine closely what everything means and what impact it may be having on our present moment – and what impact it could have on our future. It’s about analyzing and understanding the past and the present in order to grow tomorrow.
Introspection is something that is always evolving. Focusing on it is never done – it’s not something you spend some time on once and then ‘finish’ and never do again. It’s part of your everyday life and helps you to grow, gaining self-awareness and connecting on a deeper level with life, with yourself and with others.
Many people worry that although introspection is useful, it can be challenging to overcome some of its boundaries. Maybe you’ll open up to your inner self and realize you don’t like what you find and will start to shut down. Maybe you will start to ‘sugarcoat’ things to yourself to try and justify what you are finding out.
But can we be introspective and not be biased to what we find? Is it possible for us to override the voice in our head that jumps up to justify our thoughts, emotions and actions and therefore protect us from getting hurt or becoming vulnerable?
Yes, but it takes courage.
We have to let ourselves be exposed and uncomfortable – willing to accept the fact we may need to change aspects of ourselves and our lives in order to get to where we want to be.
I’m willing to explore this and go deeper into how I can improve my introspection and connect with life even more. Are you ready to come with me on this journey of discovery?
I wonder what answers we will unravel along the way.
