What does it mean to be human?
HumanWhat does it mean to be human? And what does it mean when we say we are ‘only human’?
As I look at the word human, it is only 5 simple letters, and yet it is enveloped with so many layers of intricacies and mystery.
We all strive for survival.
We all strive to feel love, to be loved, to be accepted and to belong.
We all strive to gain self-confidence and feel good about ourselves.
We all strive to feel valued by others to gain our sense of self-worth.
Our emotions make us human.
Our stories make us human.
Our love, pain, fears, hopes, joys, dreams, insecurities, doubts, and disappointments make us human.
Our vulnerability makes us human.
Experiencing life in all its colours makes us human.
You see, at the core we are all the same.
We are souls filled with life.
What is unique is our human experience. Our story that is extraordinary and distinct. The story that we own and hold dear to our hearts. The different perspectives and lens through which we each see and experience life. That is the uniqueness of the human experience.
Everyone has their own definition of being human – I am still trying to find mine. Have you found yours?
